The Role

• The Director of Cloud Operations is responsible for the overall operation of the Acrolinx Cloud Platforms and defining/executing on the operational strategy.  Responsibilities include patching and upgrades, system setup, system administration, monitoring, incident resolution, problem management, configuration/change management, security management and monitoring, cost management, capacity planning, availability management, and disaster recovery. This leadership role will also:
• Lead and grow a team of skilled CloudOps engineers who support the 24x7 operations of our cloud platform
• Participate in and facilitate strategic and tactical improvements
• Identify opportunities for appropriate and cost-effective investment in staff and information systems
• Work in partnership with business functions to build and execute a strategy and roadmap that will support sustainable growth.
• Ensure high (24x7) availability, performance, and security of our services
• Work closely with Information Security to ensure our services are secure and compliant with ISO 27001 and legal requirements
• Collaborate with internal/external stakeholders and influence cross-functional teams at all levels, including R&D, Product Management, Finance, Services, and our Cloud Platform team
• Manage our suppliers/vendors to align their services with our goals
• Create and manage budgets
• Manage, prioritize, and escalate tickets based on urgency and complexity
• Provide regular updates to management including achievement of target metrics
   

Your Profile

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in information technology, information systems, computer science, a related field, or equivalent amount of professional experience
• 5+ years’ experience working as manager level or above with demonstrated success in operating mission-critical software services
• 5+ years of progressive experience in complex information systems.  Cloud operations background and experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) is a must
• 5-10 Years of experience operating a 24x7 business-critical SaaS product (cloud, colocation, or on-premise)
• Solid technical background/experience (systems administration, SRE, DevOps Engineer, network administration, etc.)
• Understanding of containers and relevant technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
• Experience using IaC tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Chef, Puppet, etc.
• Extensive hands-on experience with design, development, and implementation of IT systems.
• A passion for standardization, automation, and consistency
• Experience with deployment tools and use of IaC infrastructure as code
• Deploying, configuring, and managing cloud monitoring tools
• Eagerness to work in a managed services environment providing support and enhancements with a true passion for problem solving and simplifying things
• Ability to create presentations for technical and non-technical audiences
• Budgeting experience and basic finance understanding (for example, Opex vs Capex)
• Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
• Proven ability to convey technical information to a non-technical audience

Highly desirable:

• Experience with audits and operating under a formal security framework such as ISO 27001, SOC 2, PCI-DSS, or FedRAMP
• Strong experience with containers, Docker, and Kubernetes (and supporting tooling)
• Experience designing / implementing security controls, policies, and processes
• Vendor negotiation experience
• Contract negotiation skills (in concert with our Legal department)
• Experience administrating Linux operating systems
• DevOps/DevSecOps experience
• Scripting/programming experience
